House Discovery Day – 5th November 2018
The theme for this term, in all our subject areas, and as part of our new KED curriculum planning, is Discovery, and at this point in the term we wanted to see what skills and dispositions the girls were truly developing. The girls were given a House task, driven by the four House captains, to produce a House book. The task was worded thus:
“House Task – Instructions for House Captains – Find out all there is to know about your House name and spend the day making an A4 booklet to show all the important information you discover.”
Frankly, when you give KH girls a challenge, they have this cosmic ability to get always right to the heart of it, responding with such curiosity and energy, that you know the results will be exceptional; House Discovery day no exception.
From the House songs, lyrics and music penned on the day, the Warren booklist (like that), to the history of the woods for which each House is named, each House book is a lovingly constructed celebration of the girls who inhabit them.
Best House Nuggets:
To the tune of ‘We will, We will, Rock Ya’ came Warren’s House song: We are, we are, wonderful Warren.
From the responses to, ‘Why we like Okeford? came this one: “I like Okeford because when I first came everybody really welcomed me and being welcome is a key part of Okeford’s unique spirit.”
Fabulous sentiment in the Norton song: ‘Ooh, we have resilience, we put in effort, we have passion. We are green like a new leaf, shining high in the blue sky, standing out, feeling still. Ooh we’re proud to be Norton. Yeah!
And Broadley’s blue geometric designs, (geometric design based, as we all know, on a branch of computational geometry) blew both the artistic and the mathematical mind.
