Our first day back at school encouraged lots of creativity as we dived head first in to our learning disposition day theme – The Mind and Brain.
We welcomed Dr Abby Deketelaere to Knighton who talked to the girls about functions of the brain and neuro plasticity. Our pupils learnt about the brain and dementia, the design of buildings to care for those with dementia, pupils designed their own building from what they learned as well as creating 3D Mind-Brain Sculptures.
We hope our pupils will understand that the brain is a totally awesome thing and that they will be able to: name up to 3 parts of the brain with their correct anatomical terms (more than three we hope), understand that they can impact the growth of their brains (neuroplasticity), understand that many parts of the brain are involved in all our thoughts, actions and decisions.
